Drone Used to Drop Drugs in Michigan Prison

Two corrections officers at the Richard A Handlon Correction Facility in Iona Michigan received an aerial surprise in August. While patrolling the yard the officers heard a sound which turned out to be a drone hovering near the housing units. As the officers approached the drone it dropped a package on the ground. While the officers and additional staff began inspecting the package the drone returned and dropped another. The packages contained razor blades, marijuana, and cell phones.

The prison staff detained the drone and the three individuals responsible near the prison. The three men are facing five-year felony charges and a $100,000 bond for smuggling weapons, drugs, and cell phones into a state prison
