How do I renew my Texas real estate license?
You must renew your license every two years. The state will send you a renewal notice about 90 days before your license expires.
- Complete 18 hours of approved continuing education at least 10 days before expiration (see requirements below)
- Renew your license online or by mail.

What continuing education is required to renew my Texas real estate license?
Sales Agents must complete 18 hours of approved CE including:
- 8 hours of TREC Legal Update I & II
- 10 hours of elective CE
- 6 hours of Broker Responsibility if you are a broker appointed supervisor. These 6 hours count towards the 10 elective hours.
Where can I find courses to renew my Texas real estate license?
Real Estate Training Institute offers online HD video 18-hour packages and individual courses to meet state requirements. Courses are available 24/7 on any internet capable device. Real Estate Training Institute will submit your continuing education to Texas after completion. Copies of your continuing education certificates will also be available to print immediately after completion.
What happens if I do not complete my Texas real estate continuing education on time?
You must pay a $200 deferral fee, giving you an additional 60 days to complete your continuing education or renew as inactive. You may renew your license for up to 6-months after your license expires by paying the appropriate fee. Between 6-months and 2-years licenses can be renewed by paying the appropriate fee and applying for reinstatement. After 2-years you must reapply and pass the state examination.
