Atlanta's housing market has been steadily increasing since 2016 with no signs of stopping. Atlanta is showing an increase in home sales, but several neighborhoods are above and beyond the rest.
- Smyrna is a popular neighborhood for young buyers. Young home buyers are fond of Smyrna because it is close to the city proper and affordably priced. However, as Smyrna gains popularity home values have risen from $292,000 to $320,000 in 2016. Smyrna is only 17.3 miles from Atlanta's city center with a relatively mild 40-minute train for commuters.
- Chamblee is another up-and-coming neighborhood with most houses being purchased after just 25 days on the market. A large factor for this hot market is the General Motors assembly plant which recently experienced a major redevelopment and is increasing job opportunities for the region. Chamblee is slightly closer to Atlanta at just 15.6 miles to the city center and a short, 18-minute train ride to the city.
- Young families are also flocking to Cumming, a neighborhood with an alluring water park and fairgrounds. The median home price has increased 8% due to the increase in home purchases. Cumming homeowners have by-far the longest commute to Atlanta at 39.5 miles with no public transit.
