Pest ID of Common Landscape, Turf, and Interiorscape Pests | Oregon Approval #73572

Instructor: Sarah Racine

When you take this Oregon Department of Agriculture-approved course, you’ll discover ways to identify and control common pests found in interiorscape, landscape, and turf settings.

The two-hour course begins with a pest overview, starting with invertebrates.

Arthropods (insects, spiders, mites, and others) are first with lessons that describe body structure, developmental stages, and proper treatment strategies.

Vertebrate pests are next with control strategies for rabbits, gophers, and moles. Lessons about disease-causing pathogens like fungi, bacteria, and viruses are included too.

Weeds and other nuisance plants are highlighted for part of the course. Learning about the obstacles that prevent proper control and see why dandelions, crabgrass, and clover spread so rapidly. Life cycles, classification, development, and the physical features (flowers, leaves, stems, roots, and seeds) of weeds are also explained.

The final lessons cover ways to identify and manage specific environmental pests.

Interiorscape pests discussed include:

  • Spider mites
  • Fungus gnats
  • Aphids
  • Mealybugs

For landscape and turf, learn how to manage:

  • Cutworms
  • Moles and voles
  • Japanese beetles
  • Master grubs
  • Deer

Quizzes pop up throughout the course to confirm you’ve retained the lesson material and that you can apply what you’ve learned once you’re on the job.

Pesticide applicators in Oregon who finish this course will be able to properly identify and effectively control the many pests that threaten vibrant plant settings.
