Review of Forest Pest Management | Oregon Approval #68013

Instructor: Sarah Racine

Succeed in forest pest management with equipment and safety techniques designed to overcome the challenges of working in nature. This two-credit course is approved by the Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticides Program to teach important forest pest management concepts.

To keep you safe on the job, this course explains the Worker Protection Standards (WPS) that you and your employer must observe. Learn WPS requirements, including a list of the personal protective equipment your employer is obligated to supply on site. Pesticide use requires compliance with mandatory chemical disclosures. This course will show you where to find that information in the workplace.

Minimize the risk of heat stress when working outdoors. Keep cool, stay hydrated and discover tools to manage heat stress and heat-related illnesses. Protect yourself and others by knowing what to do when conditions heat up.

This course helps pest managers correctly calibrate sprayers and nozzles. Learn more about pre-calibration, adjusting new and existing nozzles, broadcast sprayers and banding calibration. Finally, take a close look at application methods, uniform spray patterns and techniques for controlling pesticide drift.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss Worker Protection Standards, including the responsibilities of employers and employees who routinely work with pesticides.
  • Identify the symptoms of heat-related illnesses and effectively manage the dangers of heat stress.
  • Identify key variables in the calibration of pesticide application equipment.
  • State the equipment and methods for forest pesticide application.
  • Describe methods for pesticide drift prevention.
  • Explain calibration methods and techniques.
