Pest ID of Common Landscape, Turf, and Interiorscape Pests | West Virginia Approval #00112D

Instructor: Sarah Racine

We created this two-hour course to show pest control professionals how to identify and control landscape, turf, and interiorscape pests. The course, which is approved by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture, starts by showing the different pests you’ll encounter.

An invertebrates portion focuses on identifying and treating arthropods like mites, insects, and spiders. Lessons about arthropod developmental stages and body structure will help you choose the right treatment methods.

Discover ways to manage vertebrate pests like gophers, rabbits, and moles. Protect plant life with lessons covering disease-causing pathogens like bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

We dedicated a portion of the course to a major annoyance found in plant settings: weeds and other nuisance plants. Perfect your prevention and treatment strategies by learning about obstacles that can prevent proper control. Learn why dandelions, crabgrass, and clover spread so rapidly by familiarizing yourself with a weed’s life cycle, development, classification, and physical features (flowers, leaves, roots, stems, and seeds).

The last parts of the course identifying and managing specific environmental pests.

Interiorscape pests discussed include:

  • Spider mites
  • Fungus gnats
  • Aphids
  • Mealybugs

For landscape and turf, find out how to control:

  • Japanese beetles
  • Deer
  • Master grubs
  • Cutworms
  • Moles and voles

You’ll encounter quizzes throughout the course to help you retain what you learned and to make sure you can apply your new skills.

Pest control specialists who complete this course will be able to confidently identify and control the pests that threaten West Virginia’s landscape, turf, and interiorscape environments.
