Review of Forest Pest Management | Georgia Approval #R23-0782

Instructor: Sarah Racine

Approved by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, this two-credit course helps Georgia pest managers effectively deal with the unique challenges of forest pest control. Learn about techniques and tools designed to protect you and the environment as you apply pesticides.

Plan for success as you master Worker Protection Standards (WPS) for pest managers. Discover your responsibilities, and the responsibilities of your employer, as you minimize pesticide hazards in your workplace. Know what PPE your employer must make available and how to effectively use them to protect yourself. Review standards for pesticide hazard disclosure and where that information must be posted.

As you are exposed to heat hazards during your job, know how to manage heat stress and how to prevent heat-related illnesses.

Nozzles and sprayers are some of your most important forest pest management tools. This course contains calibration techniques for new and existing equipment. It also covers broadcast sprayers, banding calibrations and appropriate application methods. You will also learn how to properly utilize pesticides in a forest environment to reduce drift and achieve uniform application.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss Worker Protection Standards, including the responsibilities of employers and employees who routinely work with pesticides.
  • Identify the symptoms of heat-related illnesses and effectively manage the dangers of heat stress.
  • State the equipment and methods for forest pesticide application.
