Review of Forest Pest Management | New York Approval #NY-24-426647

Instructor: Sarah Racine

This two-credit course is approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to teach key practices for forest pest management. Lessons focus on the tools and techniques that help New York pest managers stay safe on the job while minimizing toxic pesticide exposure to non-target organisms.

Worker Protection Standards (WPS) are a set of safety requirements for pest managers and their employers. Learn your responsibilities and rights under WPS, including the PPE your employer must make available to you. Know what pesticide information is required for pesticide handlers and employers. Your health is important.

Protect yourself by avoiding heat stress. Know how to manage the symptoms of heat-related illnesses.

Following the safety information, the course examines the tools at your disposal. Calibrate and utilize sprayers, sprayer components and nozzles for effective forest pest management. Enjoy an in-depth look at pre-calibration, spray pattern uniformity and the steps to calibrate new and existing components. Finally, learn how to minimize unintended chemical exposure by preventing pesticide drift.
