This course, which is approved by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, describes exterior and interior pests found in institutional, residential, and industrial buildings. Examples of common pests include rats, weeds, insects, bats, fungi, mice, and some birds. The course also provides best practices for managing these pests.

After infesting structures, pests can damage structural wood, furnishings, or fabrics. They can also infest stored food and spread diseases that cause serious human illness. To ensure safety, pest managers must know how to control pests that can affect quality of life, damage property, or infect or injure people.

After completing this course, pest managers in Tennessee will be able to:

• Identify and manage common parasitic, biting, and stinging pests Identify common stored-food pests and how to avoid them
• Identify common vertebrate and invertebrate pests and outline management strategies
• Describe wood-destroying pest damage and explain the importance of treating wood prior to use
• Identify common fabric pests and outline how to manage them
