Pest ID of Common Landscape, Turf, and Interiorscape Pests | Washington State Approval #2024-010-M

Instructor: Sarah Racine

This course shows Washington pest control professionals how to identify and control landscape, turf, and interiorscape pests. All material is approved by the Washington State Department of Agriculture and Food. The two-hour course opens with an overview of the different pests you’ll encounter.

The invertebrates portion focuses on identifying and treating arthropods like mites, insects, and spiders. Ensure you use the right treatment methods with lessons about arthropod developmental stages and body structure.

Then, learn about the best ways to deal with vertebrate pests like rabbits, gophers, and moles. Protect plant life with lessons covering disease-causing pathogens like bacteria, fungi, and viruses.

We dedicated a portion of the course to a major pest: weeds and other nuisance plants. Improve your prevention and treatment methods by learning about the obstacles that can prevent proper control. Find out why dandelions, crabgrass, and clover spread so rapidly by familiarizing yourself with a weed’s life cycle, classification, development, and physical features (flowers, leaves, roots, stems, and seeds).

The course concludes with lessons revolving around identifying and managing specific environmental pests.

Interiorscape pests discussed include:

  • Spider mites
  • Fungus gnats
  • Aphids
  • Mealybugs

For landscape and turf, find out how to control:

  • Japanese beetles
  • Deer
  • Master grubs
  • Cutworms
  • Moles and voles

We included quizzes throughout the course to make sure you remember what you learn so you can apply it while protecting plant settings.

Washington pest control specialists who complete this course should feel confident in their ability to properly identify and control the pests that threaten landscape, turf, and interiorscape environments.
